Uganda, home to thousands of exotic animals, plants, and breathtaking sights, including deep lakes, spectacular waterfalls, and towering mountains, is a nature lover's paradise. Trekking with the endangered Mountain Gorilla is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that should be on everyone's bucket list. The endangered impressive Mountain Gorillas in Uganda do not live in any zoo across the planet, since they cannot survive in detention and only can be seen in just three countries in Arica.
The various national parks of Uganda safeguard about half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, exotic golden monkeys and a traditional safari checklist that includes lions, elephants, leopards and hippos. Uganda is also a birdwatcher's delight, featuring a diverse range of bird species.
Aside from wildlife, other remarkable views in Uganda include the majestic Murchison Falls, the country's largest conservation area, where the Nile River drops into Lake Albert.
Trek through our Essentials itinerary and Queen Elizabeth National Park to see African elephants, leopards, and lions. Visit the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to see mountain gorillas in their native environment. If you want to explore the ancient Nile on a boat tour and go into the natural wildness of the Kibale forest to meet chimpanzees, don't miss our Explorer itinerary. In addition to these activities, which take place in Uganda, our Adventurer itinerary includes crossing the border and into Kenya so you can combine The Big 5 Safari and Gorillas.
The perfect time to visit Uganda depends on the wildlife you want to see, as the weather is pleasant throughout the year. Wetter months make some plans and activities more challenging, so keep this in mind while planning your trip.
Uganda is best visited during one of the two dry seasons. The short dry season lasts from December to February, whereas the long dry season runs from June to September. Because of the beautiful weather, this is also the busiest time for tourists and wildlife watching is at its best in all national parks. At these times, the forest trails are drier and, therefore less slippery, and your chance of a dry gorilla viewing experience is higher. Perfect for capturing the bucket list moment on camera.
March is an ideal month for visiting Uganda, you can appreciate the forest with fewer people during this time. The more you move into April-May and October-November, prepare for heavy rains; however, less mist hiding the beautiful scenery and visitor footfall is lower.
