Borneo is home to the Borneo Rainforest, a lush habitat for endangered orangutans, clouded leopards, pygmy elephants, crocodiles, and countless other native forest species.
Ascend Mount Kinabalu, bask on one of Kota Kinabalu's heavenly beaches, visit the Sepilok orangutan sanctuary and sun bear conservation centre, cruise the Kinabatangan River in search of Borneo's big five—the elusive clouded leopard, proboscis monkey and mousedeer, as well as hornbills, crocodiles, and orangutans—and stay deep in the heart of the rainforest in Malaysia's only national geographic unique luxury lodge in our Essentials itinerary.
Stay overnight on Selingan Turtle Island, a resting beach and breeding site for Green and Hawksbill Turtles, before continuing to the Danum Valley in Lahad Datu, another spectacular marvel of the Borneo rainforest that provides canopy bridges, waterfalls, rock pools, and more in our Explorer itinerary. To spice up the getaway, head off to Langkawi, Malaysia's tropical paradise with a plethora of beautiful sights, enchanting beaches, and spectacular attractions in our Adventurer itinerary.
April through October are the best time to visit Malaysian Borneo since the weather is relatively dry and the seas are calm. Borneo is located in the tropics, so anticipate extreme humidity and rain at all times of the year. The rainy season is usually between December and February. These months are generally considered the low seasons.
To avoid peak season prices and large crowds, visit Borneo between May and June or September and October. These are perfect times to see orangutans and other wildlife since there aren't as many people, and the weather is pleasant if you combine your trip with some relaxing time on the beach.
